Game: Speed Pass                                     Type: Territorial

Cycle: II, III                                             Activity Level: Moderate

Tactics: Make short passes                        Equipment: 50 touch pads, 30 bean bags, six                                                                          pinnies

QEP:
COMPETENCY II, using space available, passing the object to teammates, catching an object, defending.

Description:

Layer 1: Spread touch pads all over the floor of the playing space. Separate the class into teams of 3. The teams start in rows on the baseline. The teams practice making passes with a bean bag throughout the playing space. They go from one baseline to the other, coming back on the sides (not in play). To receive a pass, the students need to have one foot on a touch pad. The students make short passes.

If they drop the bean bag, they pick it up, and start again at the beginning.

Layer 2: Add defense.

One or two teams of three put the pinnies on and become the defensive players in the space. They can intercept the passes.

Layer 3: Add the key (with the basketballs).

The basketball key becomes a free base, where the defense cannot go. The students need to make a shot. The students take turns shooting.

MODIFICATIONS:

Once the students are good with the bean bags, you can switch to soft balls or basketballs. With the basketball, incorporate bounce passes first, then add chest passes.

SAFETY:

Remind the students to keep their head up, scanning.

When the students come back to the start, they have to go to the exterior of the playing space, not through the space.
